Kendal County Real Estate 

Upon the Edwards Plateau lies the County of Kendall Texas.  The Gulf of Mexico is approximately 170 miles from the County.   Boarded on all sides by the Counties of Gillespie, Comal, Blanco, Bandera, Bexar, and Kerr, this county is 30 miles to the northwest of San Antonio.  The County Seat is the city of Boerne.  Boerne is located along the Cibolo Creek.  The landscape of the county encompasses 663 square miles of beautiful hills and elevations of 1000 to 2000 square feet above sea level. The area is filled with natural vegetations of Live Oaks, multitudes of tall grasses, junipers, and mesquite.

Rivers and Creeks of Kendall County include The Guadalupe, going east to west, and The Blanco, which is in the north.  Cibolo Creek lies in the southern section of the county. There are a multitude of other waterways within the county as well.  Some of which include Boerne Lake, Masters Lake, Kww Ranch Lake, 711 Ranch Lake, and Pleasant Valley Creek. The county is filled with wildlife that includes everything from bobcats and coyotes to beaver and badges, as well as other small critters.  Deer and the Javelina are also found among the animals.  The alkaline soils and many water sources also make this not only a great vegetation place but due to this environment, there are plenty of birds, reptiles, and fish.  The climate here is toward subtropical, with lows in winter of about mid-30s and highs in summer in the mid-90s. Growing season here from an agricultural view is approximately 231 days.  Rainfalls of about 30 or so inches can be expected.

Purchasing land, farms, or ranches within Kendall County is open range.  Small parcels to extremely large acreage farms and ranches can all be found here in Kendall County.  Areas of the county to purchase, include within the cities of Boerne, and Fair Oaks Ranch.  Other locations of unincorporated communities include Alamo Springs, Bergheim, Kendalia, Lindendale, Nelson City, Kreutzberg, Walnut Grove, Waring, Oberly Crossing, Pleasant Valley, Sisterdale, and Comfort.  By location, Boerne has the most available properties for purchase.  Lands and properties in the county include parcels of less than an acre and upwards of 500+ with a mecca of choices in between. Currently, there are approximately 45 ranches and farms available to purchase.  Purchase prices start below the 159,000 range and go upwards to exceed just over 2 million.

There are also 9 known abandoned/ghost towns within Kendall County.  These include Welfare, Wasp Creek Windsor, Currey’s Creek, Amman’s Creek, Bankersmith, Schiller, Benton and Block Creek.

The county has approximately 8 different locations of Caves and Caverns. These include Reed Cave, Alzafar Water Cave, Pfeifers Water Cave Three Whirlpool Cave, Spring Creek Cave, Cascade Caverns, Prassell Ranch Cave, and Cave Without a Name. Some are open to the public, some are not. The Cave Without a Name is a natural artistic Limestone solution cave.  It is located about 50 miles outside of San Antonio, just northeast of Boerne off of FM 474 and Kreutzberg Road.  This cave opened up for tours back in 1939. It is part of the National Cave Association.  There’s a lot of history involved with this Cave. Is definitely a must see when in Kendall County, TX. Cascade Cavern is another Cave filled with some interesting history.  Another of the Limestone caves within the county, this one had a book written about it, and the hermit who lived in it. The 1932 translated version of the book is called ‘The Hermit of the Cavern’.

One more piece of notoriety about Kendall County, Texas, it was listed as “Best Places to Live in Rural America” by the Progressive Farmer Magazine in 2006.  If you are looking for a break, away from the city life, thinking of moving to parts unknown, where life moves at a quieter pace,  it is time for you to check out Kendall County, Texas for yourself.
